The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics is present at this year's edition of Mercartes, which takes place in Valladolid between 7 and 9 November 2023. The IEB has its own stand in the professional area of ​​Mercartes.

The stand shows the work of the Institute of Balearic Studies through the creation and external projection aids, as well as the annual meeting of Fira B! Professional Music and Performing Arts Market. At the stand you can see some of the works present at Fira B! 2023, like Oficis Oblidats ('Forgotten works'), by Cia Daus; Primavera de bèsties ('Spring of beasts'), of Ovnipresents; Zoom, from Cia. Mov-i-ments; El fin de las cosas, by Inés Sarmiento; El jorn del judici ('The day of judgment'), by Productions de Ferro; o Càpsules de memòria ('Memory capsules'), from Coma14 and La Mouffete, among others.

In addition, this year an institutional collaboration has been carried out with the Teatre Principal de Palma in Mercartes. The IEB stand also presents the latest productions on tour of the Teatre Principal (Kings of the World, Les Maleïdes and Tantologia), the lyrical productions for rent (Don Giovanni, L'Elisir d'amore, La serva padrona, Il trittico, etc.) and the co-productions of 23/24, such as El gran manicomi (Estudi Zero), Dama dictatura (Hermanas Picohueso), Double Infinite (Malpelo), A begginning_Expanded version (Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou) or Misericordia (Iguana Theatre), among others. It should be remembered that some of these pieces, such as Les Maleïdes, by Sergi Baos, and A beginning, by Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou, have received a Creation grant from the Institute of Balearic Studies.

At Mercartes 2023 there ara some professionals from the Balearic Islands: Blanca Alonso, from Coloradas, Carme Amengual and Cristina Bugallo, from Produccions de Ferro/Espai el Tub; Daniel Ginebroza, from Theatrum ergo corpus; Carles Isart, from Aptent soluciones; Débora Marquès and Virginia Seguí, from Tria d'Art Cultura Sostenible; Francesca Alomar, from Tshock Cultura emocional; Jenny Vila, from La Mecànica; Carme Garí and Biel Fiol, from Associació Mallorca Musical; Carles Molinet; from Iguana Teatre; Tolo Ferrà, from Coma14; Lluki Portas, from Hermanas Picohueso; and Martín Melinsky, from Cia. Martin Melinsky.

On the other hand, Elisenda Farré, coordinator of Fira B! Performing Arts and technique of the Institute of Balearic Studies, attended as a guest the general assembly of La Red española de Teatros, Auditorios, Circuitos y Festivales de titularidad public, in order to establish from Fira B! synergies with other fairs, festivals and theaters throughout the state, as well as to assess the possibility of being part of La Red from 2024. The general assembly of La Red took place at the Lava-Laboratorio de las Artes in Valladolid , November 7th.

The Mercartes fair has been held biennially since 2004, with the aim of promoting the confluence of all the agents involved in the scenic event, to enhance the meeting and relationships between professionals in the sector, to value all public agents and private individuals that make it up and generate business opportunities. The main objective of Mercartes is to provide a frame of reference that makes new ideas and projects visible, and that integrates all professionals in a common and shared workspace, in order to generate opportunities for collaboration.
