The IEB has an agreement with the organizers of the photography biennial Fotofest 2022 for two photographers from the Balearic Islands to participate from October 5 to 9 at Meeting Place, the space for the festival's portfolio reviews.
The biennial, which takes place in Houston, United States, from September 24 to November 6, brings together a wide program of exhibitions and an important program of professional activities. The selected participants are Toni Amengual and Tomeu Coll.
The choice was made in 2020, on the occasion of the attendance of six Balearic photographers at the Meeting Point in Paris. The jury in charge of the selection was formed by Steven Evans, executive director of Fotofest; Marta Sánchez Philippe, director of Meeting Place; and Sarah Ansell, Deputy Director of Fotofest Meeting Place. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival was suspended in 2020, which is why photographers are participating in this year's edition.
The agreement with the festival is that the IEB assumes the travel, accommodation and registration costs of the participants. The Fotofest festival provides a grant that covers 50% of the registration fee.
Throughout their stay, the photographers will have meetings with 16 international prescribers with the aim of strengthening their network of professional contacts and getting to know first-hand relevant American experts, capable of providing them with new opportunities for the development of their professional career.
The Meeting Place, the biennial's portfolio review space, brings together 150 curators, editors, gallerists, collectors and photography agencies with more than 400 photographic artists from around the world and the United States. The event is conceived as a meeting place, where photographers, art professionals, curators and collectors have the opportunity to network, collaborate, share ideas and establish lifelong connections.
It is the first time that the IEB offers the possibility to participate in this festival, considered the most important specialized event in photography on the American continent.
