Open call for the selection of 2 Balearic photographers to participate in the portfolio reviews of Fotofest Meeting Place 2024 in Houston, USA.
The Institut d'Estudis Balearics (IEB) has an agreement with the organizers of the Fotofest photography festival whereby the IEB covers the registration costs of 2 photographers from the Balearic Islands to participate in the Meeting Place portfolio reviews, which the festival organizes from March 10 to 19, 2024 in Houston (USA).
This call is aimed at professional photographers residing in the Balearic Islands or natives of the archipelago.
Meeting Place 2024 portfolio reviews are for photographers who work with photography and/or video and have at least one complete or almost complete project that is ready for exhibition or publication.
Meeting Place creates opportunities to present your portfolio to a wide range of photography decision-makers who have valuable and wide-ranging insights that will help you push the development, focus, and presentation of your work. In many cases, reviewers can assist with career development in tangible ways, through exhibitions, acquisition of work, gallery representation, artist residencies, or the publication of work online, in a magazine, or in a book. Meeting Place reviews are organized into two sessions. The first session will take place from March 10 to 13, 2024; the second, from March 16 to 19. The selected photographers will participate in the session of their choice, and will have 16 reviews, lasting 20 minutes.
The IEB takes care of the registration costs at Meeting Place, which is paid directly to the festival. Additionally, it manages and takes care of travel expenses (round trip flight to Houston) and accommodation during the days of the reviews. The selected photographers will have to assume any other expenses that may arise (maintenance, visa, material).
The selection of the 2 participating photographers corresponds to Steven Evans, executive director of Fotofest; Sarah Ansell, director of Meeting Place, and Karen Andrea Müller, visual arts technician at the IEB.
To participate in the selection process, you must send a presentation email to "opencall@iebalearics.org" with the subject "Fotofest Meeting Place Houston 2024 Selection". The submission period remains open until November 12, 2023. The email must include a portfolio with photography projects and a professional career. The portfolio must be a low resolution PDF file.
