The project «TAPÍS», by Mònica Fuster, curated by Sebastià Mascaró, has been selected to participate in ARCOmadrid 2025, after winning the call launched by the IEB to select a curatorial project to participate in this year’s edition.
The Mallorcan artist Mònica Fuster is characterized by her willingness to experiment with new formats. She is recognized for her installations and in situ projects, which are articulated around a thematic axis to unfold in multiple facets. Fuster has worked with the galleries Lluc Fluxà, Maior, Maserre, Raiña Lupa and Pepe Cobo. She has works in different public collections, such as the Es Baluard Museum, and private ones. Her exhibitions and projects in museums and art centers such as Casal Solleric, La Capella in Barcelona or the Miró Mallorca Foundation, and in the Open Spaces section of ARCO, where she won the Altadis Prize, stand out, as well as her works as a soloist at ARCO with the Pepe Cobo gallery and at Estampa through the Miró Mallorca Foundation where she presented her award-winning project, “Traç”, which she published with the Centro Português de Serigrafia in Lisbon and with Canopo Edizioni in Prato, among others.
“TAPÍS” is an artistic project that is presented as a recognition of the work of women and the land from an anthropological perspective and, at the same time, as a call to reflection on the lack of care in the Mallorcan countryside, a mirror that can be extrapolated to the delicate planetary environmental situation in which we are immersed. The artist explores, develops and brings together ethnocultural registers and traditions from contemporary artistic languages in connection, such as installation, photography, nature art, video, sculpture and artist books.
A careful selection of these registers is proposed in an exhibition format and adapted to represent the IEB stand at ARCOmadrid 2025.
The IEB has been participating since 2019 as a cultural institution with its own stand in the cultural spaces section of ARCOmadrid, with the aim of promoting the visibility and internationalization of Balearic artists. The projects presented so far are “El instante antes de que algo suceda”, with Lara Fluxà, Gabriel Pericàs and Ian Waelder, curated by Allélon; “Rèplica. Tour de force”, by Joan Morey, curated by Jesús Alcaide; “Spleen de Teheran. Càmera lúcida”, by Núria Marquès, curated by Alexandra Laudo; "Mediterranean Souvenirs: Ofrenes", by Julià Panadès, curated by Àngels Miralda, and "Perímetre de seguridad", by Isabel Servera, presented by Pilar Cruz.
