Open call for artists residency at Hangar Lissabon

Karen Mueller

The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics (IEB), together with Hangar Centro de Investigação Artística, organizes an artist residency within the framework of its program of international residencies, aimed at visual artists from the Balearic Islands.

Located in the Graça neighbourhood in Lisbon, Hangar Centro de Investigação Artística is an independent art space, managed by a team of artists and curators. In this link you will find more information about the space and its residency program: http://hangar.com.pt/

The duration of the residency is two months and will take place during the months of November and December 2019. Hangar provides work spaces for projects of visual arts, performance, photography and video.

The residence coincides with the Triangle Workshop, the most important event of the Hangar residency program, in which six Portuguese and international artists participate in an extensive program of activities with curators, artists and museum directors from Portugal and other countries.

The IEB covers the entire amount of the residence. The selected artist will send us an invoice for an amount of 2,800 euros (including taxes), which covers travel expenses, maintenance, medical insurance and production materials. The IEB pays directly to Hangar Lisbon the expenses related to accommodation, administration, program of activities and marketing.

The Hangar residence includes a single room, shared work space, shared photography lab, curatorial assistance and production.

It is mandatory that the selected artists hire a medical and travel insurance.

Process and selection criteria

To participate in the selection process, you must send an email to geral@hangar.com.pt, indicating in the message "Open Call Registration Artist Residency Balearic Islands 2019", with an updated portfolio, CV and summary of the project that you want to make.

The Hangar Lisbon team will make the selection of the resident artist, taking into account the applicant's professional career, the interest and viability of the proposal, as well as the adequacy of the project to the resources offered by the space.
